Guayaquil lies to the west of the Guayas River, near the Pacific Ocean. The climate is hot and generally humid. January and April see the heaviest rainfall while from May to December it is primarily dry.
Guayaquil is about 250 km south-southwest of the capital of Ecuador, Quito (about an hour flight). There are approximately 3 miillion inhabitants in and around Guayaquil.
